New Business (special agenda discussion)
Social Events
The agenda was altered to allow a discussion with Jennifer Lee about opportunities for more social events or meetings of neighbors. The suggestions discussed included:
- More socials at the park
- Open houses
- Welcome letters and visits to new neighbors
- Neighborhood Watch
- Movie in the park. Doris mentioned purchasing a projector for around $500;
- The primary means of connection is the website – and Doris suggested posting signs at the park mentioning the website. Newsletters go out quarterly. Jennifer volunteered to be a block captain and on the hospitality committee.
- Gomez suggested putting together committees to organize events – set for next board meeting discussion.
- Jennifer offered to start organizing an event for early spring, possibly late March.
- There was discussion of working more closely with the realtors in the area to help us publicize our events.
The Board thanked Jennifer for her interest and involvement and will be in contact to assist her with hospitality activities and the potential social.
Old Business
January General Meeting:
- Bob sent letter by e-mail to Mike White, Lynbrook principal, thanking him for the wonderful cooperation we received in staging our mayoral forum.
- The Board discussed the general success of the event, with thanks for everyone’s assistance in various important roles and tasks.
Traffic Committee:
- Bob reported that the traffic study by the city was in operation today. Judy Boehm (Traffic Committee Chair) will call a meeting when the results of the study are available.
- Doris mentioned a permanent speed limit sign in the middle of the street in Saratoga – an example of a way to reduce speeding. Others mentioned the broad raised sections of pavement – like flatter speed bumps.
Banking:
The signature card needs to be redone.
- A letter from the organization naming the 3 signatures (Bob, Jenny and Larry) has been completed. The next step is to complete the signature card.
Tree trimming and lot setbacks:
- Doris will contact Maria Le about setting up the meeting with Linda and city staff. Trixie, Doris and Larry will attend.
Neighborhood Watch:
- February 28 has been scheduled for the meeting to cover those who face Murdock Park. Trixie volunteered her home as the site for the meeting.
- Doris plans to host an additional meeting for Littleoak Circle. Many more homes need to participate before the street will qualify for a sign.
Neighborhood Identification Signs:
- Charles reported that Maria Le got back to him about the neighborhood signs.
- Charles will bring pictures of options.
- The board is supportive of the idea and wants to pursue this.
- Doris had asked Adopt a Creek about a sign for the trail, and was told they don’t do that. Doris suggested we add a sign to the post with the dog sign.
New Business (Continued)
April 26 General Meeting – Be Prepared Night :
- Tom Carson has arranged for a presentation by San Jose Prepared.
- Trixie can bring a PP projector – or maybe Larry could be asked if he has access to one.
- Bob will ask Tom if he needs assistance – maybe with displays of equipment and supplies.
- David will contact either OSH or Home Depot about displaying security devices that are mentioned during Neighborhood Watch meetings, and Charles will contact ADT about having a rep and presentation.
District One Candidate Forum:
- We want to be a few weeks apart from the general meeting. Tentatively discussed March 29 or April 5.
- Bob will check on Lynbrook availability, and Trixie will check with candidates.
Membership drive:
- Board member and possibly block captain would visit every home on a street.
- Trixie will ask Steve Chell to start developing the material.
Youth committee:
- They need a project.
- Curb address painting was discussed. We could probably get paint donated. MNA would buy stencils. Kids would do the research for requirements. Do for a suggested donation, but not require payment. Money would go to a “cause” the young people select.
- Bob will talk to Michael Hsieh.
Lawrence Expressway bridge or crossing:
- Need a pro/con discussion. Bob will try to get more information from Linda’s office about what is being discussed and where they are in the planning and express our concern.
- Bob will respond to Country Lane Neighborhood Association resident who contacted him and try to be in contact their President to request a discussion.
Next Board Meeting in March will be at Jenny Hsieh’s. Doris is a possibility for April.
The meeting adjourned at 9:48 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Trixie Johnson, Secretary
