Murdock Neighborhood Association Board Meeting - Minutes
July 11, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 7:38p by President Larry Murchan at the home of Larry Murchan
Board members present: George Zhu, Jenny Hsieh, Doris Livezey, Charles “Chappie” Jones, Larry Murchan, and Gabe Trejo
MNA members present: Don Draper

Welcome
New Business
- [1] Tulip Trees
- [1.1] Request for a special committee to tackle this issue and work closely with city officials to find a common solution [End of 1.1]
- [1.2] M/S/A Appoint Don Draper as committee chair [End of 1.2]
- [1.3] Doris Livezey will also be involved with the committee [End of 1.3]
- [1.4] Ralph Mize, City Arborist, has expressed interest in developing a plan to remove and replace tulip trees within a relatively short time period [End of 1.4]
- [1.5] Pete Constant’s office willing to ‘fast track’ tree permit process for affected areas [End of 1.5]
- [1.6] Don will work with volunteers to create a database of homeowners with a tulip tree in their yard and have their names and addresses connected with the city fast track permit process [End of 1.6]
- [1.7] The goal is to provide the means for homeowners to make the decision if they would like their tree removed and replaced [End of 1.7]
- [1.8] Financing is yet to be determined, dead trees fall under city responsibility and live trees are to be paid for by the homeowner. Committee plans to investigate possible funding sources to facilitate this process. [End of 1.8]
- [1.9] Our City Forest will help plant new trees, the next scheduled planting will be held in the fall [End of 1.9]
- [1.10] A good replacement street tree has yet to be determined by the city, options would most likely be given to homeowners [End of 1.10]
- [1.11] We could use Willow Glen as a good case study since they recently went through this process [End of 1.11]
- [2] Calabazas Library
- [2.1] No formal decision has been made regarding which site to choose, currently there are three options for building sites: Current location, Across the street in Calabazas Park, or Rainbow Park [End of 2.1]
- [2.2] All locations impact our neighborhood, some areas of concern are:
- [2.2.1] Traffic [End of 2.2.1]
- [2.2.2] Parking [End of 2.2.2]
- [2.2.3] Ease of Transition [End of 2.2.3]
- [2.2.4] Costs [End of 2.2.4]
- [2.2.5] Park Traffic [End of 2.2.5]
- [2.2.6] Open Space Preservation [End of 2.2.6]
- [2.2.7] Facility Management [End of 2.2.7]
- [2.3] There are many questions left unanswered and it is the duty of the board to get them answered and distribute the information, we will work closely with the city and Rainbow Neighborhood Association to accomplish this [End of 2.3]
- [2.4] The information should be unbiased and allow the community the chance to voice their opinion to Pete Constant’s office based on the facts [End of 2.4]
