Murdock Neighborhood Association Board Meeting - Minutes
September 19th, 2007
The meeting was called to order at 8:05p by President Larry Murchan at the home of Charles Jones
Board members present: Doris Livezey, George Zhu, Jenny Hsieh, Charles “Chappie” Jones, Larry Murchan, and Gabe Trejo

- [3.1] Balance as of Aug. 31, 2007 is $1,746.63 [End of 3.1]
- [3.2] 74 paid memberships for 2007 and 4 paid memberships for 2008 [End of 3.2]
Old Business
- [1] Nominating Committee
- [1.1] David Gomez nominates Mori Mandis for 1st Vice President and David Gomez for 2nd Vice President [End of 1.1]
- [1.2] David would like to propose a change to the MNA bylaws and inquired about the procedure. After the proposition is written, it must be published in a written newsletter and voted on by the MNA members. David will get this proposition in writing to Larry to be included in the upcoming newsletter. [End of 1.2]
- [1.3] Doris has two people on the committee besides herself and a few nominations, we need one more member on the nominating committee [End of 1.3]
- [1.4] You do not need to be a member to nominate someone but you must be a member to be nominated [End of 1.4]
- [1.5] The ballot will be sent out as part of the General Meeting Newsletter. Ballot to include all nominees with short bio and which position they are running for and any propositions [End of 1.5]
- [2] Tulip Tree Committee
- [2.1] Meetings are underway with Don Draper serving as chair and 4 other members. [End of 2.1]
- [2.2] The committee has been formed to facilitate communication between the city and the homeowners, minimize the impact to our neighborhood by having a clear plan to replace the trees as they are removed, and to align the contractors in the neighborhood for group discounts on tree removal [End of 2.2]
- [2.3] One of the first steps is to get the city to categorize each tree as living or dead so the city can remove dead trees at no cost to the owner and phases can be planned accordingly for remaining trees [End of 2.3]
- [2.4] The committee is also in place to provide information to the homeowners regarding their options for tree replacement and where they can obtain replacement trees [End of 2.4]
- [2.5] Doris, Gabe and Chappie have also volunteered to serve on the tulip tree committee [End of 2.5]
- [3] General Meeting – October 24th 2007 in Lynbrook’s Choir Room
- [3.1] We want to have the flyer information ready by the weekend of Sep 29th and have the flyers distributed by the following weekend which will give 2 and half weeks notice [End of 3.1]
- [3.2] M/S/A to acknowledge George Zhu and Mark Burns on the newsletter for the consistent valuable services they provide the association [End of 3.2]
- [3.3] Larry has a list of volunteers for distribution, we will use these volunteers to help distribute the newsletter [End of 3.3]
- [3.4] George proposed to send out the newsletters using his bulk permit at the San Jose Post Office, board decided mailing cost would be too high for this newsletter but would re-evaluate benefits on future mailings [End of 3.4]
- [3.5] The mailer will include the General Meeting Agenda, Tulip Tree update, ballot with bios and bylaw propositions [End of 3.5]
- [3.6] Guest speakers to be confirmed: Crime Prevention SJPD Representative, AT&T Fiber Optics Network Representative [End of 3.6]
- [3.7] Neighbors are encouraged to attend the General Meeting to learn more about crime in our area and band together to form a neighborhood watch [End of 3.7]
- [3.8] We have given copies of the insurance forms to Lynbrook for the general meeting [End of 3.8]
- [3.9] Proposed Agenda: 20 minutes for elections, 20-30 minutes for crime prevention speaker, 20 minutes for AT&T guest speaker, 10 minutes for Tulip Tree Update, Open Forum [End of 3.9]
New Business
- [1] Doris is trying to get the cages covering the plants on Lawrence Expressway removed, It has to be done by someone from the Transportation Department because of the danger operating on Lawrence Expressway [End of 1]
- [2] There is a dead pine tree by the ‘big kids’ playground at Murdock that needs to be removed before the next big storm. Doris will check with our city forest to see if they can get a replacement tree [End of 2]
- [3] There is a Soccer league practicing on the field by Murdock-Portal every Tuesday, the group claims to have a permit obtained from the city [End of 3]
