- [2] Second part of the study included a survey conducted by a safety patrol officer at Murdock-Portal Elementary, details of the report are noted below in an email sent from DOT Contact
- [2.1] Hi Kathy,Here is the School Safety officer’s assessment:
- [2.1.1] The passenger loading zone on Wunderlich is used as a right turn pocket/queuing area to enter the drop off/pick up lanes near the main office. There is a sign at the exit to this area stating “left turn only.” Many parents ignore this sign and make right turns. The right turning vehicles create a blockage with parents trying to turn into the staff lot. Parents also block the sidewalk. [End of 2.1.1]
- [2.1.2] The staff parking lot on the north side of the school is also used as a drop off/pick up area. The exit is marked as “right turn only.” Most parents adhere to the sign. [End of 2.1.2]
- [2.1.3] Parents making left turns into the staff lot southbound on Wunderlich, completely block the southbound lane of travel when no space is available to get into the lot. This creates a backup well past the intersection with Ora St. Parents also block the sidewalk. [End of 2.1.3]
- [2.1.4] When the SB lane is obstructed, other vehicle past in both directions. [End of 2.1.4]
- [2.1.5] Many parents walk their children across the street mid block on Wunderlich without watching out for through traffic. [End of 2.1.5]
- [2.1.6] Many vehicles were observed NOT stopping for pedestrians in the crosswalk at Ora. [End of 2.1.6]
- [2.1.7] Many vehicles were observed parking in residential driveways and red zones around the school. [End of 2.1.7]
- [2.1.8] Very few vehicles come to a complete stop at the stop sign SB on Wunderlich at Castle Glen. [End of 2.1.8]
