A General meeting was held, October 26, 2005, at Murdock Portal Elementary School.
Board Attendees: Judy Boehm, Trixie Johnson, Mori Mandis, Steve Chell, Larry Murchan, Doris Livezey, Bob Fanjoy and Steve Chell. Meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. by President Steve Chell. (Board had approved minutes from past general and board meeting: M/S/P to approve 8/1/05 Planning Meeting Minutes and 8/2/05 General Meeting Minutes.) Minutes were re-read by recording secretary, Mori Mandis.

Treasurer Report given by Steve Chell: Balance is: $1,178.16
A bill was presented by Mori Mandis for paper for the newsletter.

Welcome and Introductions of first board members and chairmen: Cheryl Pace and Judy Boehm. Handouts regarding parcel tax refund were available along with President Steve Chell's letter.

Old Business

  1. Nominating Committee chairman Larry Murchan along with committee members: Tom Carson, Bob Rolufs, Charles Jones and James Hsieh met twice and chose a single slate of nominations to put forth to the MNA membership on October 26, 2005. No nominations from the floor. President Steve Chell called for a white ballot and a vote for the following slate of officers: Members passed nominations. Steve passed the meeting over to Bob Fanjoy.

  2. Doris Livezey thanked the previous board members, Steve Chell, Judy Boehm and Mori Mandis, for their contributions to the MNA.
  3. Murdock Park update from Doris Livezey: starting on October 29th and the next two Saturdays, daffodils will again be planted in the park. If you wish to volunteer please check the web-site and let Doris know of your help.
  4. Saratoga Creek Trail update from Bob Fanjoy: final details in the works hoping to open to the public officially in the next four weeks. Has received 14 trail volunteers to help with the trail. Those interested in helping please check the web-site for details.
  5. Grants Committee Chairman, Trixie Johnson did not have time to put together anything for a Community Grant with the SV Community Foundation during the past year. "Perhaps next year's committee may have more ideas and look into the grant process" said Trixie.
  6. Traffic Committee Chairman, Judy Boehm gave a summary of the last meeting. Requested portable speed monitors to let drivers be aware of their speed. Encouraged principal, Leslie Mains to have parents be aware of speeding, not stopping at stop signs, and parking in the street which cause back-ups. MNA hopes to have school district (CUSD) to help patrol the traffic problems incurring in neighborhood streets. Members complained of new problems with parking wrong way on Ora Street and at the crosswalks. BentOak Lane has also become an additional problem with traffic congestion. San Jose Police Department will start to give out citations to violators in the neighborhood streets. Lynbrook High School back-ups from the two four way stops again to be discussed at traffic meeting.
  7. Emergency Preparedness is looking for more volunteers, check web-site for additional information to volunteer.

Speaker: Principal Leslie Mains gave a talk and slide show of their alternative program at Murdock Portal Elementary School. To find out more about their programs please check the web-site. Tour was given after meeting for those interested. A question was asked if MNA and community could be invited to see some of the school functions. Hoping to establish a closer tie with the Murdock Portal Elementary School, faculty and parents.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 p.m. Next board meeting will be during the week of Nov. 14-18 at the residence of Bob Fanjoy. (Actual day TBD) Board Meetings are held on the 2nd Wednesday of each month until further notice.
