Street Sweep Day
Help keep our streets clean and protect the watershed, too!
Street sweepers protect our water quality and wildlife by preventing over 7,000 tons of oil, metals, and debris from entering our watershed each year.
Residential streets are swept once a month between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the day after garbage collection. Environmental Services suggests that neighborhood associations can help with Street Sweep Day reminders. The MNA will help by posting reminders on this website. Street Sweep Day in the MNA area is on the second Tuesday of the month.
Help ensure a clean sweep:
- Street sweepers avoid cars, garbage cans, and anything in a pile. The sweepers will also skip a car-length distance on either side of garbage cans, cars, or anything in a pile (the sweepers have a large turning radius). Don't leave these items in the street on Sweep Day.
- Rake street leaves into a pile or place them in a lawn-trimmings bin the day before garbage collection day. Remember, leaves collected on garbage collection day are turned into compost for City parks but those loose leaves collected by the street sweeper end up in the landfill.
A garbage-collection and sweep-day schedule magnet is sent to each household for posting on the refrigerator. You can call Recycle Plus Customer Service at (408) 535-3515 to request one.
